Manchester United midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo, has opened up on his decision to play for England instead of Ghana.
Mainoo only made his senior England debut in March, but Gareth Southgate included him in the squad for Euro 2024.
The 19-year-old made his first appearance at the tournament as a late substitute in Sunday’s 1-0 Group C win.
He has now explained why he turned turn down an approach from Ghana to represent the birthplace of his parents.
“I am proud of my Ghanaian heritage and there was speculation, but, yeah, it has always been a dream to play for England.
“I am happy to be here. It was considered, but I wanted to play for England,” Mainoo said.
