We’ve reached the last weekend of May. A ton of good stuff is coming out in June, but there’s a pretty solid list of new shows and movies out this week as well, and of course we do still have a week left in the month. Next Saturday, we’ll jump into June with shows like The Boys and House Of The Dragon returning.
This weekend we have a couple new video-on-demand releases, a really poorly-reviewed Jennifer Lopez Netflix movie and much, much more. Let’s take a look, shall we?

What To Watch This Weekend
Evil (Thursdays on Paramount+)
I haven’t watched Evil yet but I was playing D&D while a friend watched it and so I listened in and it sounds pretty freaky! It sounds like it’s gotten better over time, which is usually not the way with TV shows. I like other shows that deal with the demonic and paranormal and this sounds a bit like a newer, scarier X-Files.
South Park: The End Of Obesity (Paramount+)
I’ve been enjoying the South Park specials—longer episodes that are basically mini movies dealing with various hot topics like COVID-19. This one is all about weight loss drugs like Ozempic. I can only imagine where this one goes.
Atlas (Netflix)
Netflix’s $100-million JLo sci-fi flick is bombing hard with critics. It’s reviewing worse than Rebel Moon Part 2 (15% on Rotten Tomatoes) and almost as bad as Madame Web (11%). Ouch.
Tires (Netflix)
I’m honestly not familiar with Shane Gillis but I guess he’s a controversial comedian. Now he has a scripted series on Netflix about a dude who inherits his father’s auto repair chain. The description reads: “Will (Steven Gerben), the nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain, attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Gillis).”
Mulligan Part 2 (Netflix)
In keeping with a lot of Netflix shows these days, Mulligan was split into two parts. The adult animated series from 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt alumni, Robert Carlock and Sam Means, is streaming this weekend.
The Beach Boys (Disney Plus)
A documentary about The Beach Boys. What more do you need to know? It sounds like it doesn’t really break new ground for the band but should be interesting for anyone who wants to learn about Brian Wilson and the rest of the boys. There’s some never-before released footage as well.
Dune: Part Two (Max)
Dennis Villeneuve’s epic second-half to Dune arrives on Max this weekend so if you missed this in theaters (it’s very much a theater movie!) you can watch it now. And you should! It’s quite good, though I definitely had some issues with it. Read my review here.
Fall Guy (VOD)
I’m surprised a movie starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt didn’t do better at the box office. Both such big, appealing stars. Pretty solid reviews for an action flick. But I guess that’s not enough of a draw these days. After just three weeks, Fall Guy is already out to rent or buy. (Watch on Amazon)
Civil War (VOD)
I really liked this movie—here’s my review—but it’s been controversial. That’s fitting, I suppose, when you’re dealing with subject matter that’s inherently divisive. (Watch on Amazon)
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
I’m going to try to get to Furiosa this weekend. I’ll be honest, the first trailer did not look good but subsequent ones have been better and it’s getting good reviews, though not as good as the incredible Fury Road.
Ongoing Shows
Dark Matter (Wednesdays on Apple TV+)
I’ve been catching up on Dark Matter on Apple TV and it’s pretty good! A cool mystery with some fascinating science-fiction elements. I’m still a couple episodes behind.
I also binged Sugar on Apple TV and it was excellent. I’ve been meaning to write a review but it’s been a super hectic week with the end of the school year and all that entails.
Beyond this I really haven’t watched that much. I’m going to try to get some of my British police drama kick this week with Blue Lights Season 2 and hopefully also start Kin. I also really need to catch up on X-Men 97.
What are you watching these days? Any recommendations? Check out last week’s streaming guide right here.
